John Bannon

jbannon@mpmlaw.com

John joined Murray, Plumb & Murray as an associate in 1981 and became a director of the firm in 1987. He is a member of the Cumberland County, Maine State, and American Bar Associations. Since 1981, John has worked intensively with virtually every type of law governing land in Maine. He has assisted clients in obtaining development permits for projects ranging from small day care centers to multi-million dollar electricity generating plants. John also has devoted much of his practice to helping persons who are opposed to objectionable projects, or who wish to keep development within reasonable limits.

Since the early 1980s, John has represented several municipalities, private persons in litigation against municipalities, and has appeared before the EPA, FERC, FAA, and Army Corps of Engineers at the federal level, the BEP, DEP and LURC, at the state level and before the zoning and planning boards, Boards of Selectmen, and Town Councils of most municipalities in Maine. He is knowledgeable in all aspects of governmental law. Finally, John has devoted much of his attention in recent years to the investigation and litigation of complex boundary disputes with regard to all aspects of his practice. John frequently argues cases before the Maine Law Court and Superior Courts throughout the State..

John will be included in “The Best Lawyers in America” in the specialty of Land Use Law beginning with its 2008 edition.  Since 2001, John has been included in the "Best Lawyers Consumer's Guide."

John is a resident of West Cumberland, where he devotes his spare time to restoring an 18th Century cape and surrounding 16 acres of fields that he rescued from irresponsible development as a multi-lot subdivision.
