Murray Plumb & Murray’s Public Utility practice is an integrated, multidisciplinary team serving companies in the telephone, ferry, electricity, water, oil & gas, wastewater, renewable energy, and clean technology. Our practice includes all aspects of federal and state regulation affecting utilities, producers, third party suppliers, midstream operators and transporters, distributors, consumers, and investors, as well as manufacturers and real estate developers and lenders. We represent clients before the Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont Public Utilities Commissions, (PUCs), the Federal Telecommunications Commission (FTC), the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC), the Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and other state and federal agencies.

Our lawyers have many years of experience representing telephone, ferry, electric, gas, and water utilities in variety of complex rate cases, commercial litigation, corporate, and transactional matters; and representing non-utility power producers, non-utility power suppliers, and unregulated affiliates of public utilities.

Services include, but are not limited to:

  • Corporate counseling, including utility mergers and acquisitions, complex financial transactions, and securities issuances.
  • Representation at regulatory proceedings and litigation, including utility rate proceedings, complaints, acquisitions and sales, cases tried before trial and appellate courts, and hearings before administrative and regulatory agencies.
  • Turn-key energy projects representation, including negotiation of base agreements and securing project financing, facility permitting and siting for independent power plants, renewable energy and co-generation plants, and
  • Structuring and negotiation of sales, and power purchase agreements.
