My whole life has been about advocating for people with disabilities – first as a teacher and parent, and now as an attorney. I’m passionate about getting children with disabilities everything they need and access to the same things as other kids.

Growing up, Amy was known as the babysitter who could handle kids with special needs. As an English teacher for remedial college students in New Jersey and at York County Community College, she found that many of her students were missing basic skills because of undiagnosed disabilities. Her natural impulse was to advocate for the support they needed. Special education advocacy took on new meaning for Amy when she became a stepparent to a child with severe autism.

This rich personal and professional experience led Amy to law school and her current focus on special education matters at Murray Plumb & Murray. Before joining the firm in 2015, Amy worked as an attorney at Gibbons Stevens Law Office in Kittery, specializing in special education law, estate planning, family member guardianship, and real estate and land use law. Prior to that she served as a law clerk at Clifford & Clifford, LLC, where she assisted in all areas of special education, disabilities rights, and criminal matters.

Amy is a board member of Disability Rights Maine and provides pro bono representation of clients in special education matters through the Maine Volunteer Lawyer Service. She also is a member of the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, a national nonprofit that protects the legal and civil rights of students with disabilities and their families. A York resident, Amy has been a member of the York Planning Board since 2014 and has served as chairperson since 2016.
