Murray Plumb & Murray Partner Stacey Neumann cautions that loosening Maine’s child labor laws can present an increased potential for abuse.
Neumann was asked to weigh in on the State of Maine’s push to increase its teen workforce for a May 13 Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram story. Neumann goes on to mention that children are less likely to recognize issues regarding rights and safety than the traditional adult worker.
“Children are less likely to understand their legal rights and safety issues as well as older people might. And they are certainly less likely to complain, even if they felt something was dangerous or unfair,” Neumann said in the piece.
